Dusk falls softly into the earth,

light drenches my reawakened life,

warms the small planet of my heart.

Joan Barasovska is a poet living in Orange County, North Carolina. In lyrical, accessible poetry, Joan contemplates the lifetime of a woman: as a girl, a daughter, a young woman in despair, and a wife and mother. At the brink of old age, living in welcome solitude, she revisits memory with broadened perspective.

Joan’s poetry has twice been nominated for a Pushcart Prize and, in 2020, for Best of the Net. Her poem “Fidelity” was performed by the Tulane University Choir. She serves on the Board of the North Carolina Poetry Society and hosts a poetry series at McIntyre’s Books in Pittsboro, NC. Her first chapbook, Birthing Age (Finishing Line Press, 2018), was published when Joan was 65. Carrying Clare (Main Street Rag) and Orange Tulips (Redhawk Publishing), a full collection, were both published in 2022.
